Rules and Regulations for Artists:
Each artist or team will have a 6x6ft space (approximate) assigned to them. Youth individuals and teams will have a 5x5ft space. Assigned spaces cannot be changed.
Check in begins at 9 am on Saturday, September 3, 2022. All artists must check in with their registration ticket by 11 am in order to participate.
To be considered for judging, artists must complete their work by 5 pm.
Artists should completely fill the assigned space with their design.
Youth artist participation requires parent or guardian approval.
ONE box of 48-count pastel chalk will be provided for each artist/team. Some spare chalk will be available, but not guaranteed. We encourage trading chalk with other artists.
You may bring your own chalk but it MUST be water-based (NO oil pastels).
Chalk is the ONLY medium that may be used.
No fixatives allowed on the drawings.
Artists are permitted to use tempura paint as a base coat. (It must wash off easily, otherwise artist may be responsible for damages).
Chalk can only be used in designated areas by artists. Artists are responsible for ensuring others do not take their chalk or draw in unassigned areas.
Art must be family friendly.
Artists must submit a paper sketch of their intended art prior to the festival for approval. The Library's Viridian Event Center reserves the right to reject applicants for any reason they deem necessary.
Chalk the Walk staff reserves the right to stop or erase any art that does not match the approved sketch or is deemed inappropriate.
Respect for artists and their work is a high priority. Please only bring beverage containers with closed lids and avoid stepping on art or insulting other artists.
This is a rain or shine event. The Library's Viridian Event Center may consider alternatives in the event of extreme weather, but artists are responsible for protecting their work.
No portable speakers allowed.
There are no available power sources to charge phones or other devices.
Artwork must be original. If an artist or team intends to reproduce something originally created by another artist, the original artist must be credited.
An indoor lounge with water and snacks will be available for artists to take breaks out of the sun.
Prizes
Winners will be selected by a panel of judges in the following categories: solo (youth, teen, adult), and team (youth, teen, adult, and family). The Chalk the Walk team may alter the prize categories at any time, based on the number of participants in each category.
A People's Choice winner will also be voted on by the public during the event.
Judging will take place immediately at 5pm the day of the event. As soon as the judges score and deliberate, awards will be announced. If any winners are not present during the announcement, they will be contacted by phone and/or email and given 48 hours to respond. If a prize is unclaimed, it will be offered to the next runner up.
